I bought this last year to lock my helmet to my bike, it worked ok for a little while, then got steadily worse as the months went on. It has a three number combination lock that sometimes worked and then totally stopped working last week, I tried for almost an hour to get it unlocked with no luck. Unfortunately I had my helmet locked to the bike at the time and had to leave it there while I took the bike out. I was meeting some others for a day long ride. When I got home I tried again and couldn't get it unlocked, the helmet got scratched up hanging from the bike and the bike got scratched by the helmet bouncing around on the caribiner I called the company and left a detailed message to please give me a call me back. It's been almost a week. I'm still waiting for a call back from Lockstraps customer service, I had to cut the lock to get it off the bike. Don't buy this!
I am going to write the manufacturer on this and see if they will replace at no cost. This will be the 2nd time I have replaced this lock because the combination either frozen in the locked or unlocked position. This 2nd time around I was wise and purchased two Lockstrap combination locks. Both set to the same combination - if one freezes, I can use the other and my helmet is not locked to my bike while out and about. One of the locks failed today. Generally speaking, most of my locks last forever; at least 5 or 10 years, so my experience with Lockstrap's combination has been very poor.
This Lockstraps 801 locking carabiner is pretty awesome. Solid, fairly heavy (compared to normal carabiner). This thing is pretty large, much bigger than a standard carabiner, and this makes it solid and secure looking. I see it as more of an advantage then not being larger. I use it to lock my motorcycle helmet on my bike. Works great for that and easy to get on and off.

PROS:
Large size
Solid metal build
Easy to use, easy to set new combination
Low Price

CONS:
Large Size
Only 3 digit combo
Metal can scratch paint off your bike or motorcycle so be careful where you put it. It would be nice if it was rubber coated.
Hard to tell top from bottom. Your code may not work because you are trying to put it in upside down.
Ok, I don't own a Motorcycle and this isn't for the helmet I don't own. I bought one to lock down a mountain bike. See I got some quick release hold downs to mount in my truck bed and wanted something to keep the dishonest people a little more honest.... Alright, I'll cut to the chase.. I got one and immediately ordered a second one.. Basically it is larger that I expected and more solid! That's the important part. Ok, so I'm not going to risk my life rock climbing with this because I could probably break this BUT it is sturdy enough that if someone wants to break it then pretty much they would go through anything to get my stuff. I plan on using these to lock almost anything I want to tie down.. I'm now actually looking at the smaller versions of this.. This is, as advertised..so 5 stars.. To make it better, use stainless steel rather than aluminum...
As said, it's 6.5 inches. Never sounds very big in this day of "bigger is better" but oh yeah, it's big. Just measure 6.5 inches with a ruler and take a good look. This thing looks like a GIANT keychain.

The quality is good. The metal / steel is strong, and nicely painted / coated. I was concerned what the quality of the locking mechanism itself would be like, but I had no need for concern. It feels all of one piece, and the combination "wheel" turns easily and without a glitch. It's operation, opening, closing, and general function is seamless and smooth.

I am using mine as a sole helmet lock. I have a thin, tubular rear rack and I hook this around the most rear part. The rack is black and so the tubular black lock blends in and looks right at home. It just hangs there and slides around when riding but it makes no fuss, really. And with earplugs and FF helmet it's the last thing I can hear while riding. This way I am always with it and never forget it. Hop off my scooter, open the lock, hook on helmet, close and walk away. What could be easier?

Here is a pic of my rear rack from another post here at Amazon. I simply hook it around the outermost end of the rack there and forget about it. It will fit anywhere on the rack, however. But what your locking up has to "clear" the bike, ideally. At the rear most section of the rack, my XL FF helmet clears the bike well.

Description

Heavy duty, heat treated steel combination locking carabiner. Perfect for many applications. Up to 600 pounds of strength.

i bought 4 initially but had to return the other 2. i couldnt get the 2 to to reopen or unlock after a combination was set.
initially , the other one that im using as a gate locker started to fail. we couldnt open that gate anymore. we will try to troubleshoot some more. i truly regret buying these lock locking carabiners. they are not even cheap .
It is well-built and heavy-duty. However, I was hoping to use it on a gym locker occasionally, but it is too thick. The information page on the lock was somewhat lacking.

The lock shank is 7/16 inch (1.1 cm) thick.

The lock is quite large and the mechanism can be opened all the way with a little initial effort leaving a 2.75 inch opening.

By rotating the lock around a rectangular object as you attach it, you can get it around something that is slightly over 3.75 inches by 1.5 inches in size.
Product photos don't do this one justice. It's sturdy and quite effective.

Unfortunately I will likely return it because it's just too big for my intended purpose as a helmet/jacket lock for a 2009 Ninja. When hung from the left side of the bike the helmet almost touches the ground, from the right side the helmet rests on the exhaust, and from the handlebars the helmet rubs the fairing. I'd love to hear any other suggestions for how to make it work because it's almost a shame NOT to use this one: this lock looks like it would require stealing the whole bike just to get the helmet.

In fact, this would probably work better as a bike lock for use with a chain or cable if one were so inclined.
