First, order the next size larger than you normally wear. Still just a little tight at the cheeks for my preference.
Buttoned up it's pretty quiet and warm and can crack the face shield open and locked at about 1/4 inch for air.
Chin guard flips back 180° (Doesn't stick straight up like a sail) and can still drop the face shield or just use internal sun visor. When it gets dark I just raise the internal sun visor and drop the shield. GoPro mounted on chin guard gets rear view video when chin guard is flipped back (Upside down so need to right it with editing software).
Sena has to be mounted a little further back to clear the internal visor up-down slide but installed easily and deeper speaker depressions made for great sounding music. Need to use the boom mic on modulars but works fine off to the side.
OK .. I'll start this off by saying I'm kind of a helmet junkie. I currently own (6) helmets, and generally add one and minus one every season. That said, my main "go to" traveling helmets were either a Scorpion EXO-AT950 in cooler weather and a HJC IS-33II in summer. The downside with the HJC in summer is rain. Rain will come up under the lowered shield when traveling above 55mph. I use a comm device with both helmets. When I first spotted the Valiant II, I thought "hmmmm.. what a perfect helmet". Sooo .. my only decision was to pick between the silver/white/grey Jeans or red/white/blue Revo. I selected the more subdued, yet striking Jeans style. As for a size, I measure exactly in the center between Sm and Lg at 22.25". In a HJC I wear a M and my Scorpion is a L. With my head shape being more of a round oval, I opted for the size L based on prior size comments.
1.) This helmet is STRIKING !! I thought it would be a combo of matte/gloss paint, but it is all gloss. That is OK with me. It is a beautiful helmet. The helmet comes well packaged. It is in a thin foam liner, then in a helmet bag and then in a neat padded backpack. I'll use this as a traveling bag in my top case. Also included is a pinlock shield and inflatable helmet service pad.
2.) The fit is pretty much spot on, if not just a "touch" loose. Chin bar down and strapped on, it is good to go. Sizing up was the right choice.
3.) This helmet is truly versatile! Easy to operate and multi functional. The internal sun visor drops down to a more useable level than either my Scorpion or HJC. I'm going to be buying an amber visor for both day/night use.
4.) My Sena 5S comm device fits nicely. The speaker pockets are the perfect size. Installed, they do not touch my ears at all, and are perfectly positioned. The 5S has a small foot print, so the sticky clamp fit nicely. Although their is room to slide off the comm with the chin bar both front/back, their is more clearance with the chin bar forward. Also, I elect not to use a boom mic. I route the wired mic to the front of the left cheek pad and leave it peaking out of the cheek pad. This works very well.
5.) Now to a nit pick. The interior isn't as nice as either the Scorpion or HJC. Not bad, just not as nice. Also, the interior isn't as easy to re-install as the Scorpion/HJC and the left side can be a bit tricky getting back in place with the comm wires. Pretty sure I got it good now.
Being in WI, with over 12" snow on the ground and single digit temps, I obviously won't be using the helmet for its purpose, in quite awhile. That said, it is a nice helmet. It will fill both all my traveling helmet needs, as it can be an open face 3/4 helmet, as the face shield raises to the contours of the helmet. Also has plenty of venting options. Rain or cooler weather? Flip the chin bar forward and your covered. (4.5) stars for the preliminary impression, with .5 deduction for the interior.
Great helmet. I love the versatility being able to flip open and ride open face at slow to medium speed or close it for full face at high speed. The helmet is much quieter than my last helmet too. The shield is much closer to my face than recent helmets I've owned but not a big deal. The sun shield comes down low which is awesome. The helmet comes with a nice quality shoulder bag in case you ever fly and ride. My only complaint is the fact it designed for an oval or medium oval head. I normally wear a Large in a long oval helmet but I had to order an XL and still make modifications to the foam with a Drexel tool. Obviously, that is not ideal but it gave me major pressure on my forehead and headaches. I recommend this helmet if you are looking for a modular with the ability to ride open face or full face.
I really like this helmet. I had a single piece full face helmet for over 30 years but had always wanted a modular helmet. When I read that this one also had a built-in sun visor I decided to try it. I measured my head and it came to 59.75 cm so I bought the 59-60 (large) It was too tight so I returned it for the 61-62 ( x-large) cm. That fits better in the head and temple area, but is still a little snug in the cheeks, but not uncomfortable. These helmets are for oval heads ( I think) and mine is closer to circular. I almost went with the 2x, but you don't want the helmet loose on your head. While it seems to be a little noisier than my older Bell, it does seem to let in sound from cars coming up from behind. That weirded me out at first, but you get used to it. I have a full windshield so I don't get a lot of wind noise. If you ride without a windshield you may not hear the cars coming up. In any case, don't rely on that for making lane change decisions. I used the helmet a few times with the temperature in the 50 F and it was warm. You don't get a lot of air flow through the vents, but as I said I ride with a windshield.
I had the original version and absolutely loved it...but when I got another Harley SGS, I had to treat myself to a newer helmet (in Silver). The design of this newer version looks smaller and more streamlined. Thank goodness there are more vents so my poor scalp doesn’t feel like it’s in a steamer. Comes with a standard helmet bag along with a cute camouflage backpack to carry the helmet.

Description

Size:X-Large | Color:Matte Titanium

The LS2 Valiant II 180-degree flip, modular motorcycle helmet. Building upon the success of the original Valiant, LS2 has again pushed the envelope of technological development. A newly designed chin bar mechanism is smaller and slimmer than the original, making for a more aerodynamic shell. The lightweight, aerodynamic shell is made from LS2's proprietary Kinetic Polymer Alloy (KPA). This proprietary material uses nanotechnology to blend microscopic particles of aramid fibers into a high-end polymer. This material is absolute state-of-the-art in energy management materials, offering a bit of built-in flexibility to disperse energy, the penetration resistance of high-end fiber products, and a lightweight shell. 2 shell sizes to allow for a perfect fit and the smallest shell possible. A full metal latch assures the chin bar will stay locked when closed, and an LS2 exclusive design keeps the chin bar securely in place at the back of the helmet when it is in the open position. The UV and scratch resistant shield uses optically correct Class A polycarbonate and is PinLock ready for the maximum in fog protection. LS2 designed a new quick change shield mechanism for the Valiant II, making swapping shields a breeze. The Valiant II uses our Twin Shield System drop down sun shield. Its cable-operated switch is smooth, and easy to use even with a gloved hand. The removable, washable comfort padding uses breathable technical fabric, which is "Thermo-Formed." Our cheek pads use ultra-high-quality foam that is cut to shape using LS2’s 3D laser technology for all day comfort and no hot spots. Fully adjustable, flow through ventilation keeps you cool and more in control when the weather gets rough. Built in our own factory for the best value on the market. More helmet for less cash. LS2. Long oval fit. DOT approved. Meets the FMVSS 218 Standard, product also meets requirements imposed by the California Air Resources Board (CARB)

This is my second LS2 Valiant II helmet. This one is a replacement. I was T-boned on my motorcycle and ended up sliding about 20 yards many of which was on the side of my head. This helmet stood up to the impact and the slide amazingly. I love the modularity that I can change on the fly without removing or replacing parts as I go.
I love the modular helmet so far, I went through many reviews before buying. Make sure to measure around head correctly for sizing. I went with the small, head measurement 21-1/2" or 54-1/2 mm. It is a snug fit and will break-in nicely. Ventilation is not very noticeable. Vibrational echo will be very prevalent, especially higher speeds and/or long rides (I have loud exhaust). I have not tested with comm system yet.
I do enjoy the Modular system, seems to work very well. And looks really nice. 1 month review.
