Really grate supports. These will not protect against compression impacts to the wrist but definitely protects against over rotation in the backwards direction of the wrist. I use boxer's wrist wraps to support my wrists against compressing impacts and these on top of that to protect against rotational impacts. I have had 4 large impacts to the wrists while wearing this combination and so far I have had no noticeable injuries or damage to my wrists.
I'm 52 and just took up road biking after being a weight lifter and runner for 36 years- I still lift but my running sux lately, so I decided to start road biking after signing up for a 50 mile charity ride in 6 months for the cancer center where I work. I have early arthritis in my right wrist from lifting and from karate 25 years ago. After short (3 mile) rides with my 7 year old on our new bikes my wrist would be killing me. Got this brace and set out on longer solo rides to train. After my first three rides of 24, 28 and 32 miles I had no wrist pain while wearing this brace. It is comfortable and I forget I have it on as soon as I start riding. It prevents strain on my wrist by keeping it from flexing all the way back when I ride. Awesome product.
This brace will only protect you from upward movement, It does not protect you from downward movement or lateral movement. It also feels very uncomfortable. I fell while using this wrist guard and sprained my wrist.
Used it about a dozen times on my MTB looking for relief from wrist pains caused by handlebar jamming. Decent support to prevent backwards over-flex of the wrist. Nothing to help with pounding on the front of the wrist/palm. I wear a padded Giro bike glove under it, which helps a little.

Still undecided if this is better than the $16 stiffened brace I bought at Wally world.
I have moderate tendinitis in my right wrist and when I mountain bike, the braking motion or death gripping (bad habit, I know) on sketchy terrain leaves me with a wrist I can't even bend. This support has saved my wrist from a week's worth of pain after a ride. Keeps my wrist in proper position and doesn't allow poor alignment on my bars. Considering buying a left one as a just in case because it's that good. I have very small wrists and hands and the Small fit perfectly.

I'm an old guy (59). Too many over-the-handle-bar crashes, wish I was a best rider. The Troy Lee wrist guards have no doubt prevented fractures and potential orthopedic surgery. The cost is a-drop-in-the-bucket compared to an E.R. copay! As a radiologist I get to see the nauseating fracture-dislocations that mountain bikers suffer. I don't leave home without them!
This is a great brace! Fits well, sturdy enough to keep your wrist firm and relieve shock. Flexible enough to get some flex to the bars. I also use this now to play baseball. Really helps. I shattered my wrist in full, three pins and two screws. Full reconstruction. Surgeon said it would be a year or so before I could grip the bars. Back in about 5 months using this brace. TLD makes great gear!
Works as expected, rode with this a few times and feels sturdy enough. Might not be top of the line but I feel pretty confident my wrist will be protected when I wear these. For those looking for more protection (i.e. fingers), I would assumed you'd wear gloves or just go for a combination if that's the level of protection you desire.

I would recommend and this will work for the 90% not doing the crazy jumps or extreme trail riding that might require more expensive and advanced wrist guards.
