Very deserving of my 5-star rating. I rate things honestly - good or bad. This is the only way to actually help manufacturers better their products.
This is my first DOT Half-Helmet. I bought this one for the convenience of having the comms unit already built into it, which saves me hundreds of dollars over finding a decent helmet and then a comms unit to fit it. I wanted a bluetooth comms unit primarily for music and phone calls. I do not ride much in groups, but if I get a chance to use the communication functions, I will jump at the chance and may update my review to add my experience with it. I have had this helmet for almost a month now. I have ridden with it almost every day since I've received it. I will give my review on how it works for me.
Pros:
• Fit - I have a small head and it is hard to find a good, small-sized helmet to fit me comfortably. This one does fit me very well. Even when snugged down over a hoodie.
• Comfort - I have worn this helmet for many long-hour rides. It starts and stays comfortable throughout.
• Music - I always ride with earplugs in - even with full-face helmets. This helmet is no exception. The music is easily heard with the earplugs in and I assume it would be much louder without the earplugs.
• Phone calls - I have answered two phone calls with this helmet. Both calls were very clear and the folks on the other end heard no wind noise, but could tel that I was on a speaker phone. There was no trouble on either side of the conversation hearing and talking to each other.
Cons:
• This unit will not allow you to use it while it is charging. This is my biggest gripe about it. If you do not take long rides then this is a non-issue. If you do take long rides and you have the volume on high, you will have 3 hours of music at best and then silence for the rest of your ride with no way to receive hands-free calls. I bought this helmet and a small battery charger pack at the same time so that I could ride for 8-10 hours at a time and be able to keep the headset charged up. I realized after my first attempt, that his will not work. As soon as the powered USB is plugged in, the unit bids you a farewell and shuts down. So my options on a long ride are to listen to no music and keep the unit on only to accept phone calls or listen to music until it dies and then hope I notice my phone vibrating in my pocket when someone calls.
• The tab for loosing the chin strap is made from a cheap pleather. This will fail soon on my helmet and then be thrown away, but this is a very minor gripe. A simple piece of webbing, instead of pleather, would fix this issue and I hope this is what we will find on newer models.
Overall, I love this helmet. I hold out hope that SENA will be able to update the newer models to allow for simultaneous charging while in use. This is a 5-star helmet to me, and for a first-of-its-kind product, I commend SENA on their efforts. It will only get better from here.
Good helmet, but hard to hear from speakers. I got this helmet to wear during the summer here in Texas when it's a bit too hot for a full-face helmet. Fit is good as is the comfort overall. I've tried talking to someone over the phone and the person on the other end could tell I was on my bike (compared to my full-face where they can't). Speakers are okay, but seem to be overwhelmed by road noise, even at about 35-45 mph.
.
I've tried both of the supplied ear covers and both disappointed. The Ear Plates (smaller cups) did a better job of directing the sound to your ears, but were quickly useless at the lowest of speeds (ear plugs necessary). The Ear Pads (full ear covers) were an improvement over the plates, but still rendered useless above 40 mph. At 40+ mph the sound comes across as nothing but treble and I'm not sure which was worse for my hearing, the wind or high volume necessary to hear sounds. My other complaint about both is that the mounting of them is simply pushing them in between the liner and shell, which allows them to easily be knocked out out of place just putting the helmet on your head.
.
Overall, I like the helmet and have worn it daily over the last few months. I'm not sure there is a solution to wind and road noise in a half-helmet, but with a few tweaks to the ear covers, this helmet would be a solid 4 stars.
This helmet is great. It has a very comfortable fit. For the rest of this review it is important to note that I was using this helmet on a Harley Davidson with NO WINDSHIELD/FAIRING. I note that because I believe with a windshield/fairing this helmet would be 5 star. As soon as I get the chance to try this with a windshield I will update. The sound quality is OK. Helmet comes with ear covers that help keep the wind out and redirects sound down into your ears. Without them it’s very hard to hear anything over 40 MPH, with them it’s pretty good up to around 70 MPH and slowly goes downhill from there. The communication system works ok, but being an open face helmet you naturally want to scream to talk to each other causing some ear drum blowouts for the person on the receiving end. The helmet controls are capable of much more than I can remember to do while riding. It has so many great features, but when I’m riding I can’t remember how to do most of them. I just used it for about a 400 mile weekend with my girlfriend (she got one as well) and I can say it definitely made the trip more enjoyable with music even if there was the occasional eardrum blow out of her trying to talk to me using the headset. All in all I would recommend this helmet.
I researched and research this helmet since it came out and have been waiting to see some videos of people testing it out. I have the Sena 20s dual headset on my full face helmets for me and my wife, In the summertime it is too hot to have a full face on sometimes here in Atlanta :however, I still wanted the capabilities to answer calls and speak to someone while riding with my half helmet without some corny microphone hanging down. So after enough positive reviews, I took the leap and have been nothing but pleased with the operation of this helmet. I had to give it four stars due to the size chart not being as accurate as it should be. My hat size is 7 5/8 that would normally suggest an XXL but I had to return it and ordered an XL and it feels great and fits much better. The purchase was even sweeter because during that time it went on sale and save me a little more. Will be reviewing the replacement and sure to give it five stars with a more in-depth review. BTW the matte black was the right finish choice.
Too much wind noise, false bluetooth video advertisements. NOT quiet at all! Cell phones (tried 2 different cell phones) did not work at more than 30 MPH (50 KM/h), kept cutting off and on. Sena customer support was good but could not resolve the issues. It was returned for full refund. I gave it a 1 star because that is the minimum otherwise, a 0 would be my rating. Helmet was not of high quality but DOT approved. Helmet was good. B/T was garbage.

Product works well but came a bit scratched. Audio quality is acceptable but not as good as earbuds. That being said they are legal as opposed to earbuds which are not in many states and provinces.
Does not work as advertised. Sena is asking me at my expense to return the item. The cost of return would be half the price of the helmet. If your looking for a helmet that does what they advertise, stay away from this model.
thanks
