Although the garage is far and away the most convenient place for it, helmet manufacturers will advise you not to leave your helmet in the garage. Why? Volatiles in the air from gas and solvents can attack the composition of the helmet and weaken it! So where does that leave you for helmet storage?
When I say the closet is the best place, most people laugh. Okay, it's true: Many closets look like the airport scene from The Fifth Element! But the truth is, there's no better place. Why? It's warmer than the garage in winter and cooler than the garage in summer, so putting on your helmet doesn't become an exercise in pain. The closet has lots of nice soft things in it (a.k.a. clothes) so your helmet doesn't get scuffed. And, of course, there's less likelihood of volatile gases floating around in there (as opposed to your bathroom. ;-)
When I ride, I wear a Schuberth C3 Pro. With their comm collar installed, that means I've got $1200 swinging around on my neck! Now, some of you may scoff - what kind of idiot would spend that much on a helmet!? Ask yourself: If you had an accident on your bike (or more likely, you were *just* on it 1/4 second ago!), how much money would you trade not to have your head hurt? In Sleeper, Woody Allen said, "My brain? It's my second favorite organ!" I'm pretty much with him on that one.
Now ask yourself, if you DID spend that kind of money to protect your head, how often would you like to outlay those bucks? If you're rich, maybe you don't mind buying a new helmet every 6 weeks because you treated yours like a bowling ball that no longer fit. (Of course, if you were that rich, you probably wouldn't be shopping on Amazon in the first place, right?)
That brings me to the Condor. UHH stands for Universal Helmet Hanger, and this works really well with all kinds. I've got 2 of them for 2 different kinds of helmet, and it works equally well for both. You can hang it on a closet rod or, with the predrilled mounting holes, you can hang it on a wall. Your helmet will hang facing out or in with equal ease, and you'll never again have to worry about finding it on the garage floor after it fell off your bike!
I purchased this after having my helmet smacked by doors, knocked off my desk & generally abused in the office.
Mine is hung over a cubicle wall, where the helmet may rest upon it, at eye level. This not only protects the helmet from scuffs & spilled coffee, but also shows off my sweet lid, sprucing up the place. Buy this hanger, put your helmet on it & you won't need pictures of your family or motivational posters to add flair to your workplace.
For smaller spaces, this also frees up a lot of room. After I was able to move the helmet off my desk, up & out of the way, I had a room for a second monitor. This allowed me to do more work, more efficiently. Now that I think of it, I should have expensed this as office supplies..
The hanger is extremely sturdy & good-looking. My favorite review came from a coworker that also rides - they walked in & looked at the empty hanger & exclaimed 'No way - is that?' Yes, my friend, it is. 'So cool!' Yes, indeed.
I don't recall how I found out such a thing existed, but I was pleasantly surprised to find there was a solution to my problem.
Love these hangers! Bought two on a whim after seeing an ad for them, and I'm really happy with them. A bit of a wrangle getting the helmet on it, but it's very secure once on, and easy to get off. Lets the helmets air out and dry out. Highly recommended.
if you need an easy way to hang your helmet on a door or cabinet, this is it.
Just as I expected. High quality metal w nice rubber all the way around to protect helmet and wall. I use mine in an office cubicle. Show off the helmet keep it safe and free up space.
