A simple and cost effective way to see it your helmet to your bike. The diameter tolerance is nice. I was able to mount it to my Kawasaki Versys tube frame on the left side right under the front corner of the seat. It is barely noticeable. This position makes locking the helmet up a bit tricky due to the right nature of the place I mounted it, but that's to be expected. This should also be able to mount to handle bars, though it requires about two inches of the bar length to mount, so take that into consideration.
Works fine for my needs. The latch is not the most well-made item in the world but for what it was designed to do, works great! I mounted mine on a frame tube between the rear foot-pegs and seat of a Susuzki Vstrom 1000. Be sure to hold your helmet strap-rings up by where you are planning to mount the unit to ensure the helmet can be attached and detached with ease (while also not touching the ground, hot exhaust,.. basically in an ideal spot the way you see it. If you are concerned about the reliability of this unit, I have only been using it just over 1.5 weeks (but believe me, it gets used a lot!). For it to lock securely, I found it easiest to hold the pressure off the latch while you hold it in and turn the key to the 'locked' position, then release helmet and let it hang suspended. Otherwise, its a pain in the rear but given the fact of 'gravity', just makes sense.
The only actual thing I do not like about this lock (after procuring, installing and now having used) is the PRICE. I feel this device is probably worth about half what I paid, then again - it was the least expensive option (but still).
At the end of the day, I would buy it again.
As long as someone looking to take your helmet doesn't have anything at all to pry with this will keep them from taking your helmet. It will stop someone from just walking off with your helmet, but if they have even a screwdriver, this is a very rinky-dink little thing and I'm pretty sure you could snap the pot-metal hasp in 2 seconds with anything. I'm not sure I'm even going to bother leaving it on the bike, it's pretty much just a place to hang the helmet that's less convenient than just using a carabiner and only slightly more secure.
as other reviewers have posted, there could be improvements to the design, sure. a spring load would be great. it is awkward to use for sure.
however, there literally is nothing else on the market that would a) fit on my crash bar where i wanted it and b) hold my helmet using a key.
we did use alternate screws just like many of the other reviewers. i wanted the option to re-place this in case i decided i didn't want it on my crash bar after all.
it works as stated. it is worth the money.
Well made, good finish, can look like it "belongs there", and it works. Limited choices for where you're going to be able to put it, however. Mind how the helmet hangs, or you'll cook it on an exhaust pipe....

Okay so I have some gripes with this product. For one thing they did nothing to keep it from scratching up whatever you hook it into-it's bare metal! It also will move around cuz it's not gripping well at all. I had to cut up some rubber inner tube and line it to keep it in place and protect my handlebars. The lock rattles and the key sticks and catches.... It's just really not well made but if you HAVE to have a helmet lock it's better than nothing.
Great solid product. Does the intended job. Installation took 5 minutes after finalizing where to
Install
Negating 1 star as the black paint chips really easy. After hooking up the D ring of the helmet 3 times 70 percent of the paint on the hook was scraped off
I would give it 5 starts if it had a spring inside to aid in holding it shut as well as a spring in the key mechanism to naturally orient it in the locked position. Its challenging trying to work the lock whilst holding your helmet when the helmet only has a 3 or 4 inch strap and the lock keeps falling open and the key has to be manually turned to the locked position. It is sturdy though, comes with tamper proof screws and locktite. Make sure you are sure about its mounting position before committing to the locktite
