As others have noted, there are a few issues with this lock. It's a PIA to have to use both hands to lock your helmet, one to secure the latch and the other to turn the key. If you have experience with a lock that just clicks into place you're going to be pretty annoyed with the way this lock works.

I tried what others have suggested and I'm glad I did. I bought ordinary machine screws at Ace Hardware to try different mounting locations. Unfortunately, one of the mounting holes on the clasp that secures the lock to the bar was not threaded all the way through. I could only tighten the screw about half way in. It's a good thing I didn't try it with the included security screws because I wouldn't have been able to remove the lock, and the popped-up screw would have been an invitation for theft.

I got the smallest diameter version of the lock, 7/8 - 1 1/4", but I couldn't find anyplace on my bike to mount it. Your experience may differ. You really need a straight vertical bar to mount the lock and use it conveniently.

I would have returned it even if the screw holes were properly threaded. I'm disappointed with the design and operation of the lock. I wouldn't recommend it.
This helmet lock does what it needs to, but leaves off some things to be desired. The construction and finish are what you'd expect for the price - decent, but not over the top. The installation was easy. The mechanism is what I feel is mediocre. There is no latch that clicks when you push the hook back into it's place. It is free floating unless you turn the key back to lock it. I would have preferred the 'master lock' style where the latch is a 'key to open, push in to re-engadge'. The key and key slot don't match up terribly well. You will probably need a light of some kind to get the key in after dark. Instead of aligning the flat side of the key to the bottom of the slot, the key needs to sit in the middle of the slot, which feels awkward and is much harder to find - even in day light.

Overall, this is a good buy for the $25 you might pay for it. If you're looking for a nice lock, I'd look elsewhere. This is very basic and doesn't feel like anything over mediocre quality.
Screws would not go all the way in. Poor quality screws that stripped when trying to tighten. Now the unit is loose and can’t remove because of the screws. Super disappointed. Will have to cut off the bike to remove. NOT HAPPY
Not a bad product for the price, hard to find a place to attach it that isnt near a hot engine or muffler.

Pros= price, easy install, nice looking chrome finish.

Cons = DO NOT USE the "one way" tamper proof screws. You only get one shot to attach it to your motorcycle and if you DO end up using them, than you will need to use a "one way screw extractor" (a.k.a. EXPENSIVE, special screwdriver that you will most likely only use once) to take it off or loosen them to adjust it. I used needle nose locking pliers which worked to grab the screw heads and back them out enough to loosen the rest by hand; but it messes up the screw heads and scratched the chrome on the lock. I looked through many, many, many pages of reviews to find out that it is a 1 inch - #8-32 size screw used on this model (there was no info in the tech spec's, the manufacturer didn't know and i had already installed the lock) so make a note of the screw size and go buy a better stainless steel tamper proof (or regular) screw that can be adjusted without special tools.

Lets face it, if someone wants your helmet bad enough they will get it regardless of the screws since the latch is not very "secure" to begin with. It will keep the average delinquent from walking off with your helmet.
I mounted this in the passenger back rest, works perfectly. Like a few others though, I did not use the permanent screws so I can move it if I needed to. My only complaint is having to use the key to lock it, wish it would just close and lock in place. Still five stars though.

Fits well on a National Cycle chrome crash guard. Blends well too. Will be difficult to uninstall since it comes with one way security bolts. Just make sure you install it on the right place before tightening.
Tips: Make sure the lock is all the way in before turning the key to make sure it is secured since you can turn the key without it being engaged.
Looks good, works fine. Would be better if the helmet ring latch was spring loaded to close, but it's a minor inconvenience. This is the second one I've purchased so locking two lids is now easy. I replaced the use-once machine screws with torx stainless steel screws.
Works like a charm for when I need to lock my helmet to the bike.
Seems a quality product - nice deep chrome - not sure how secure but seems like it should deter casual thives - wouldn't go round frame tube as shown (or crash bars) so have attached to handlebars of Fatbob
It works great however it should’ve shipped with some sort of a rubber gasket so it’s not metal on metal something to help it stay on the highway bars a little better. I had to buy some double-sided tape
